Mass Gainer VS. Whey Protein
On the sports nutrition market, there are different forms of protein such as whey or gainer. These two sources are totally different in terms of composition and objectives. We will therefore help you to distinguish the main differences to help you in your choice.
A gainer or more generally called mass gainer, is an all-in-one product composed of many ingredients to provide an optimal formula in order to easily and quickly increase caloric intake in order to gain weight and build muscle. Indeed, the amount of carbohydrates and calories is much higher than in a whey protein.
To gain weight and muscle mass, it is essential to consume more calories than the caloric expenditure in order to create a caloric surplus. For beginner athletes or for people who want to gain weight but can’t despite an already high calorie diet, the consumption of a mass gainer can be a good solution.
According to scientific studies, whey protein is one of the highest quality proteins due to its amino acid content and its rapid digestibility. It is most effective when used after a workout to allow your muscle fibers to rebuild. The primary objective of a whey is to provide a sufficient amount of protein and amino acids instantly or when you have an urgent need for protein.
By its composition, it contains a high level of protein and the lowest possible levels of carbohydrates and lipids. Whey allows an easy and quick intake of good quality proteins while limiting the intake of carbohydrates and lipids in your diet.
Take a gainer or whey?
As you can see, taking a gainer for mass gain or whey for lean is not as simple as that. The use of this type of food supplement will be effective only if you have a food plan adapted to your goals.
For example, if you have enough protein and calories in your diet, it will be useless to consume whey which will only increase your caloric intake and therefore make you gain fat. If you gain weight with your classic diet, there is no need to add a gainer to your diet which will only make you gain unwanted fat.
Taking a gainer or whey is a choice that must be determined by your solid diet and your ability to gain weight quickly and easily. However, if your diet is well controlled and perfectly adapted and you have deficiencies, it is interesting to take a gainer if you want to be in caloric surplus or whey to meet your needs in protein only.
